Browning bar problems. Oct 23, 2013 · Pull out piston and clean it and the cylinder as it may be jammed, piston should move free. When cleaning the bore always lay the rifle on it's side. The cases would “stovepipe” after the first or second shot without fail. Some have been polishing the piston and cylinder too, then never having problems. Check this thread out too, it may help you with your BAR's. Browning has a great tech site and are very helpful. Over oiling, carbon, junk from the hunt or maybe storage (keeping the rifle in a rifle case that has lint), mixing of lubes (WD40 and oil don't mix well), or the wrong lube. I disassembled the rifle with help from a YouTube video titled “Browning BAR Assembly & Disassembly” (link at bottom). Lube everything you see that has wear with a quality oil like Break Free.
